Our next walk is on Saturday 14th February and we are heading to Auchinstarry in East Dunbartonshire.
The high walk does a circular walk from Auchinstarry marina, along the canal and up the hill joining the John Muir Way along the top of the hills passing Roman Fort ruins.
The low walk also leaves the Auchinstarry Marina and walks along the canal and up to the Roman Centurion statue, following the path round the hills, finishing in Twechar.
You do not need to be a member to join us so why not come along and enjoy the fresh air and exercise.
When taking part in the Club's activities, everyone is responsible for their own health and safety and take part entirely at their own risk. You must be equipped with the proper gear which is walking boots, waterproof clothing and we would recommend layers of clothing so you can be comfortable when walking. You should also bring a packed lunch in a rucksack and a bag with dry clothes, which can be left on the bus, just in case the weather is not good on the day.
The cost for the day is £15 for members and £18 for visitors. There is also a raffle on the bus - tickets £2.00 - with a chance to win some fabulous prices.
Our club is based in East Kilbride, near Glasgow, in central Scotland. We walk on every second Saturday, rain, hail or shine! The walks have taken us as far north as Glencoe and to the lakes and hills of Cumbria in the south.
On each of our days out, we always have two guided walks - a high and a low walk to suit different abilities. Each walk has a walk leader and back marker who have already walked the route to familiarise themselves with it and ensure it is clear and safe. We also have some members who come and enjoy a 'wee wander' - a short, slower walk, that allows them to enjoy each other's company whilst being out in the fresh air and countryside.
The club started in 1994 and currently has about 70 members. We regularly get between 40-50 people on each walk and welcome many visitors throughout the year. A committee, voted for by the members, oversee the organisation of club and the walks and a recce committee ensure that each walk has been completed and is suitable for the group.
Members have enjoyed weekends away in Scotland, Yorkshire and the Peak District in England, and a week's walking holiday in such fabulous destinations as the Loire Valley, Dubrovnick, Mayrhofen and Zakopane in Poland. These have always been an opportunity to enjoy beautiful scenery, fabulous weather and great company.

This year we are going on some fantastic walks taking in Fife, Berwick-on-Tweed, Dumfries & Galloway and Crieff to name but a few. The low walks range between 5 and 7 miles and are gentler, and the high walks between 6.5 and 9 miles. For your own comfort and safety, please ensure that you wear walking boots, waterproofs and layers of clothing to respond to our unpredictable weather. Don't forget your packed lunch too!
Please note that there may be changes to the planned walks due to weather conditions or following advice from the recce team.

It's been fifteen years since the club flew to Lake Garda for a walking holiday. We decided that it was time that we returned to that lovely part of northern Italy. Last time, in 2011, we did walks at some fabulous locations, some of which we may do again? We walked to Bardelino, famous for its wine and next day, we took the cable car to the top of Monte Baldo and walked back down (it wasn't as easy as we thought!). We also drove to Riva at the north of the lake and walked through the pedestrian tunnels at the lakeside towards Pregasina then sailed back down to Garda. On our non-walking days, we visited Verona and Venice. This year, in June, we are heading back to Garda town, at Lake Garda, with 38 members and friends. Hopefully for a week of sunshine, some wonderful walks (old and new) and interesting visits on our free days.
For something completely different, the club is heading north to Orkney in September, with our own coach, for a week of walking and sightseeing. We'll be staying at Kirwall Youth Hostel which we have booked privately during its closed season. It's not like hostels used to be with bunk beds in dormitories! This hostel mostly has twin rooms and modern facilities. During our week in Orkney, we plan to combine our walks with visits to the famous sites on Orkney mainland. We'll see the Ring of Brodgar, The Italian Chapel, Skara Brae, The Churchill Barriers and Scapa Flow. We'll also have a visit to Stromness town and a sail from Kirkwall port over to the island of Shapinsay for one of our walks. There has been a lot of interest in this trip. There are 46 members and visitors going on this holiday. The list is now closed, and we have a waiting list.
The club welcomes visitors throughout the year either for a one off visit or as many times as you would like. If you would like to join us and become a member, please speak to a member of the committee who will arrange for you to complete a short form. The cost of membership for a year is £25.00 and this can be renewed every year at the AGM. The membership fee helps cover the cost of the coach and the recce travel costs. The committee members all give their time voluntarily.
If you have any questions about the club or wish to come along on one of our walks, please fill in your details below and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
